Do I have to have a proper Tai Chi suit to do Tai Chi?

The short answer is No, you do not. You can wear anything you want, but loose clothing is preferable.

The reason some people wear a Tai Chi suit is so, when they put them on, it puts them in a frame of mind that they are going to do a particular activity, for example Tai Chi is exactly the same as if you are going to work; you put on your work clothes do a particular task. You do not put on the clothes that you wear when having a night on the town.

Another reason is, most instructors like their students to wear a distinctive uniform, which usually incorporates the club logo. They also tend to suppliment their income by selling the suits.
